Associated Marine Surveyors Ltd. specialize in pre-purchase and insurance surveys for good quality pleasure craft, whether new or used, power or sail. We also handle appraisals, valuations and claims.

Marine Career.

2001
Sailed across the Atlantic in 19 days on board "War Baby" (see page) and crewed on "War Baby" in the wildly exciting and successful America's Cup Jubilee.
2001Awarded a contract by the Goverment of Canada to appraise approximately 200 vessels.
1999Became an Accredited Marine Surveyor after qualifying in the 5 year training program of the Society of Accredited Marine Surveyors, the largest world-wide professional surveying group.
1999
Accepted as an Associate Member of the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers.
1997
Accepted as an Associate Member of the Marine Underwriters Association of B. C.
1995-
2000
Trustee for the Victoria-Maui International Yacht Race.
1993-
1994
Chairman of the above race with sponsorship from Porsche Motor Cars.
1970-
1992
Surveyor for all sailboats in the above race for compliance with the stringent Safety Regulations of the International Offshore Racing Council.
 Gave seminars and talks on marine safety and related subjects during the same period.

Designed, lofted and built a 44' sloop which became our family cruising sailboat for the next 14 years

Formed "Sailair Co." with a partner to build "Seahawk 24" sailboats

Owned, raced, and crewed on a wide variety of boats from 20' to 70' including racing in "Admirals Cup" races

Parallel Business Career!

1999Finally decided I had had enough of "business," and decided to concentrate full time on working with boats!
1998-99Vice President, Finance, HR Online Inc. A company specializing in human resource management solutions, working through the Internet.
1964-97Joined Thos. W. MacKay & Son Ltd. in 1964. Became a junior partner in 1966 and co-owner from 1987 to 1997 when I took early retirement. The company specializes in process engineering controls and employs mechanical engineers and engineering technologists. It has been a supplier of systems and instruments to B. C. Ferries, Allied Shipbuilders, the Esquimalt Naval Yard and other industrial and marine businesses.
Participated in a wide range of engineering seminars and trade shows.
1956-64Held a variety of accounting management positions, including Supervisor of Accounting for the University of British Columbia, and Controller for Shanahan's Ltd., a local chemical company.
1954-55British Army Intelligence Corps. Trained in intelligence gathering and analysis, interrogation, observation, investigation ans surveillance techniques.
1952-54Trained as an accountant with the Society of Costs and Works Accountants.
1951
Scholarship to the Royal Air Force College, Cranwell. Learnt to fly.
